"In line with the Law, the President only submits one candidate name and the candidate should be one of the current TNI chiefs of staff or a former TNI chief of staff who has not retired yet," the minister said.
According to Hatta Rajasa, the DPR would later discuss the latter from the President and decide whether the name of the candidate would be approved or not.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono on the same occasion said that the Law No. 34/2004 ruled that the TNI chief as well as military personnel have to retire when they enter their retirement age and their working period could not be extended.
"TNI Chief Marshall Djoko Suyanto is now about 58 years old and so he is about to retire, and it could not be extended," Minister Sudarsono said.
