RI begins functioning as UN Security Council President

Indonesian Permanent Representative to the UN Marty Natalegawa said Friday`s (Saturday`s in Indonesia) meeting was attended by 15 UNSC members. "Thank God, the working program was adopted without protracted debates. All delegates accepted it. They all gave their support when Indonesia explained the program," Marty said.

In general terms, the UN Security Council`s work program for November include deliberations on the conflicts in the Middle East, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eritrea-Ethiopia, Sudan, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On November 6, Indonesia would chair an open debate on the role of regional organizations amid the efforts to maintain international security and peace.
