We'll be covering this as the week progresses. The first main protest is set for Monday night in San Fransisco.

This week, people all over the world celebrated the coming of a new year, a new start. At the ACLU, we plan to take an even louder, stronger stand for civil liberties and human rights this year by showing the Bush Administration and the world that the time has come to close the detention center at Guantánamo Bay.

The ACLU is calling on people of conscience to wear orange on Friday, January 11th, the sixth anniversary of the opening of the detention center.

We invite you to join us at our Close Guantánamo Volunteer Activist Night on Tuesday, January 8th, to gain a deeper knowledge about the egregious human rights violations taking place each day at Guantánamo Bay.

It will be interesting to see what kind of support this has at the grassroots and how this support gets translated into real political change.
