"The situation so far has been secure," he said on the sidelines of the 8th Archipelego Day celebrations and the 50th annivesary of the `Djoeanda Declaration` led by Vice President Jusuf Kalla here on Tuesday.
He said conducive security conditions also prevailed in a number of provinces which were prone to conflicts such as Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD), Central Sulawesi (Poso) and Maluku (Ambon).
Widodo said though the situation was secure in the runup to the New Year, military and police personnel must remain alert to possibility of security disturbances.
"Yes, ...we also need the people`s support in guaranteeing security until the arrival of the new year, so that security officers will not be alone in maitaining security," he said.
The Police Headquarters would mobilize 141,460 personnel to conduct "Operation Candle 2007" aimed at securing Christmas Day and New Year celebrations.
