Soeharto`s family asks for forgiveness

"We realize that Soeharto was just a common human being who had both pluses and minuses and was not infallible. We ask you, the people, to forgive him for his mistakes," Tutut said at the state funeral for the former president at Astana Giribangun, Karanganyar, Solo, Monday.
Tutut, with tears streaming down her cheeks, expressed gratitude and appreciation to everybody attending the funeral, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President M Jusuf Kalla.
She said that to his family, Soeharto had been an exemplary father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Tutut also said the family very much respected Soeharto who had taken an active part in the nation`s armed struggle for independence and given meaning to the country`s independence through development.
"Father, may you have a safe journey, our prayers will always be with you," Tutut said weeping.
