Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam
visited former president Soeharto who was being treated at Pertamina
Hospital in South Jakarta on Monday.

Bolkiah arrived at the hospital at 5.30 p.m. by a Mercedez which had an escort of three security guard cars.

During the visit, he was accompanied by Indonesian Religious Affairs
Minister Maftuh Basyuni and received by former minister/state secretary
Moerdiono.

Dressed in black suit, blue shirt and dark blue tie, Bolkiah went
straight to the room where the 86-year-old Soeharto was being treated.

Bolkiah left the hospital at 5.49 p.m. However, no journalist could
interview him as he was tightly guarded by security personnel who had
been stationed at the hospital`s lobby since one hour earlier.

Moerdiono said Bolkiah came to the bedside of the former Indonesian leader to pray for his recovery.

"He visited Pertamina Hospital to see for himself the health condition of his close friend," Moerdiono said.

Bolkiah is the third high-profile foreign dignitary to visit Soeharto.

Previously, former Singaporean prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and former
Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad also visited Soeharto who was
admitted to the hospital on January 4 after suffering from anemia, low
heart beats and severe edema.(*) END
