TNI not yet ready to use voting rights in 2009

"According to experience, during the election of a regional head, there is a prospective candidate who invited local military chiefs to receive money. This is no good, and may affect the neutrality of the military and other aspects," he said.

Djoko meanwhile strongly denied the worry of the military in using their voting rights in 2009 is more complex as it concerns national unity and integrity.

"So, hopefully after five years following the 2009 elections, and only if the welfare and political knowledge of the soldiers are adequate will TNI members use their voting rights," he said.

The Military Academy graduate in 1975 pointed out that the decision of whether or not the TNI will use their voting rights in 2009, will depend on the political decision of the government and House of Representatives.
