"We have received a response from the U.S. government that there is noconcrete plan at this moment" on the Okinawa deployment, the government was quoted by Kyodo as saying, in response to a question submitted by House of Councillors member Keiko Itokazu, an independent lawmaker who represents the Okinawa constituency.
A draft version of the 1996 report by a Japan-U.S. defense panel that confirmed
the relocation of U.S. base facilities in Okinawa included a plan to deploy the
MV-22 aircraft, according to U.S. documents.
