"On behalf of the United States, Department of States and the American people, I wish to offer my condolences on the passing of former president Soeharto. We offer this condolences to the people of Indonesia, with whom we share a deep friendship," he said.
Up to Monday afternoon, ambassadors and charge d`affaires of 11 countries, namely Eritrea, Hungary, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, Qatar, the Philippines, Laos, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Ghana have written in the condolence book provided by the embassy.
Meanwhile, some 16 ambassadors to the United Nations and the United Nations Protocol have written down expressions of condolences in the condolence book of the Indonesian Permanent Representative Office in New York.
The book will be made available for seven days starting from Monday.
Among countries having expressed condolences through the book are Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Vietnam, Malaysia, Yemen, Arab Saudi, the Philippines, Belarus, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Laos, Bangladesh, Thailand and New Zealand.
