Denpasar (ANTARA News) - The United Nations flag was flown side by side with the red and white at half-mast in front of Bali`s Westin Hotel in Nusa Dua where the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) is being held.
The opening of the Second Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention Against Corruption (COSP II UNCAC) was quiet on Monday, with respect being paid to former Indonesian President Soeharto, who passed away in Jakarta on Sunday.
Mourning for Soeharto`s death marked the conference which President Susilo Bambang Yudhyono was scheduled to open. The President was absent on Monday due to his role in the funeral ceremony for Soeharto.
Suharto, a former five-star general, died of multiple organ failure on Sunday at Jakarta`s Pertamina Hospital, aged 86. He had been receiving treatment for 23 days.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, was assigned to open the five-day conference on behalf of President Yudhoyono.
Bali Governor Dewa Beratha called on all institutions in Bali and the local people to fly flags at half mast for seven days. (*) END
