Venezuelan opposition closes campaign in massive demonstration (updated)
On 29 November 2007, Venezuelan opposition to constitutional reform demonstrated in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Caracas at the official end of their no campaign. The gathering at Avenida Bolivar was organised by opposition students who have been the public face of those confronting Hugo Chavez’s administration. The event where thousands manage to overcome turnout expectations received very little coverage from official media. Instead, it aired a video showing some rightist politicians from Justice First party (Primero Justicia) asking people at Church to disobey the referendum results.
In a related incident, journalists of state media -VTV- were harassed and hurt by opposition students after their rally (look at video). They were recording a bus taking opposition students after the demonstration; previously, opposition student leaders had claimed that unlike the government they did not need buses to bring people to their Caracas demonstrations.
Tomorrow pro government forces will show their numbers at the very same place opposition gathered today. On Sunday, Venezuelan will vote a draft constitution in a most debated referendum.
Ps on footage: Even though Venezuelan children are not legally authorised to participate in political rallies, both government and opposition use them for promotion purposes.

In this case, "Constitutional Reform" refers to Chavez trying to grab absolute power. And as we all know, absolute power, corrupts absolutely.

I've heard numbers anywhere from 10k to 50k, though 10 is probably closer to the actual number.
Thanks again for getting us this story!
