The fact is that among poor people manual labor does not have the same stigma that it has for wealthier people. Americans, in particular seem to have an aversion to manual labor. There are many people elsewhere who not only have never done anything but manual labor, their whole families are made up of manual laborers. Dirty jobs done in the sun are simply a part of life.
