To deter the "outdated" practice of marrying more than one wife, polygamy taxes has been imposed on polygamists in a northern Bangladesh city, Rajshahi, Bangladesh's fourth-largest. The tax will come into force from July 1 this year.
As part of the city's 2006-2007 budget, any man marrying a second wife will face a one-time tax of USD 142 (10,000 takas), Doordarshan News said here quoting city mayor Mijanur Rahman Minu.
