VATICAN CITY, Sept 5, 2007 (AFP) - Pope Benedict XVI voiced renewed anxiety Wednesday about global warming and hailed greater awareness of the problem, in remarks at his weekly audience.
"Water resources and climate change are subjects of great importance for the whole human family," the pope said, calling for people to "pray and work for greater respect for the marvels of divine creation."

steve468, thanks for this. Not to sound cynical, as this is a pretty big deal, but I wonder if the Pope has considered the energy output of the Vatican in making these remarks. And also, it's nice that praying and respecting the earth is his mandate, but those are pretty passive ways to save the planet, no?

Kaitlin, The current pope has made a number of controversial statements since his ascension to the papalcy. However, these statements are meant to convince those who have not yet formulated a concrete opinion concerning global warming and climate change. As it is almost certain that we have entered into perilous times on earth, words are conforting, but action is certainly beneficial and necessary. I agree with you.

Good story Steve, I agree with Kaitlin, having been to the Papal Grounds it is imposing making one wonder what the Monthly Energy Bill is to maintain a small city such as the Vatican. Talk is cheap, actions are needed.

Maybe the pope feels it's a moral obligation by all followers to respect and take care of the environment.

I would hope the Pope would practise what he Preaches, though I have not seen evidence of it Victoria
