Praise for Disabled at Highest Level
Westminster, London, UK
The disabled workforce of Carlyon Print were honoured today at a reception at the Houses of Parliament, by Barry Gardiner MP for Brent North and his staff, He spoke of his disgust with regards to Brent Council.
Mr Gardiner condemned Brent's actions in the closure of Carlyon rendering all staff unemployed by mid September, and thanked the workers and management for nearly 30 years of service to the local community. He a read a open letter from Anne McGuire MP 'Parliamentary Under Secretary (Disabled People)' and a brief statement on behalf of Dawn Butler MP for Brent South was presented by her representative. Mr Gardiner and those who could not attend offered their future support for as long it was necessary to the disadvantaged and disabled former employees that Brent Council had so carelessly discarded.
On a lighter note, Barry Gardiner presented and signed a Birthday card to one of Carlyon's long standing workers, Mr Shane White who was 42 today, The card was also signed by all staff and management. Mr Gardiner posed for photos with staff from Carlyon for the Press and chatted openly to all those attending the reception.
Finally a grand tour of the House of Commons was given to the staff as a final thank you, a few short weeks ago Carlyon's plight had been highlighted in this very room. Leading to this day, even as terrible flooding swept across London and the South East, Spirits remained high.
