Germany hosts world leading medical industry fair

Germany's strengths in medical devices go beyond possessing Europe's largest market and a legacy of great scientific discovery. Rather, the German government is working to enhance research and development (R&D) and therefore ensure the industry's staying power.

As part of Germany's "high-tech strategy," the country is making euro 800 million available for research and development in health research and medical technologies through the end of 2009.

In 2006, euro 21 billion were spent on medical devices in Germany making the country Europe's largest medical devices market, and it is growing. In the same year, domestic sales in the German medical devices industry brought in euro 15.9 billion, an increase of 8.1 per cent over the previous year.
