USIBC President Ron Somers made opening remarks at the luncheon, thanking USIBC's partner the Federation of Indian Chamber's of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and praising Secretary Shankar for his "distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service." He noted "In Secretary Shankar, we have a true champion of India's economic growth and we look forward to working with him in his new role as Secretary for Industrial Policy and Promotion."Secretary Shankar stated that 10% growth was feasible, but it is imperative that growth be inclusive. "We have undertaken ambitious programs to take infrastructure to villages" said the Secretary. Towards the end of the meeting, Secretary Shankar graciously entertained questions from the assembled USIBC member representatives on subjects such as labor reforms, retail trade, the purchase preference policy, the forthcoming spectrum allocation, defense procurement, intellectual property and infrastructure finance.
