President asks people around Mt Kelud to stay alert during holidays

Speaking at his office following a plenary cabinet session on preparations for the Idl Fitri festivities, the President said ; " As we all know, Mount Kelud is located close to the towns of Blitar, Kediri and Tulungagung and its status has been raised to alert level in accordance with the geological signs that have been observed."

He said according to reports he had received the volcano`s activity is known to follow two cycles, namely a short cycle of 17 years and a long cycle of 30 years.

"The last eruption happened in 1990 so that it may erupt again 17 years later which is this year," he said.
