Proposed deal on NH Right-to-Know Law falls apart

Attorney Peter Smith of Durham serves on the Right to Know Oversight Commission, which has wrestled with the issue for several years. He said the impasse Thursday killed a pretty good compromise.

"Because the Senate refused to move, newspapers will have much less ability to get their stories," Smith said. "People who want to act in secret will keep doing what they already do."

"It got shot down by the press and the governor," Smith said. "When you can't have the slightest compromise, it damages the rights of the media and the people to know."
