Prosecutor Charges Mother in her 4 Children's Deaths

A prosecutor says he is considering seeking the death penalty against a mother charged with four counts of murder in the deaths of her young children.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill filed the charges Wednesday against 27-year-old Angelica Alvarez in the strangulation deaths of her children, eight-year-old Jennifer Lopez, six-year-old Gonzalo Lopez, four-year-old Daniel Valdez and two-year-old Jessica Valdez.

The children were laid to rest Tuesday in a funeral attended by more than 300 people.

Alvarez has been hospitalized since she was found unconscious near the bodies of the four children in the basement of their Elkhart home on Nov. 14.

She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Nov. 30.
