Claes Borgström, Sweden's Equal Opportunities Ombudsman, has urged Swedish soccer players to boycott this summer's World Cup, arguing that the sports event will lead to a dramatic rise in prostitution in Berlin.

Important public events are major business opportunities for all sorts of people, including prostitutes. Not even religious events make an exception from this rule. For instance, the Council of Constance (1414-1418) not only attracted clerics and pious laypersons from all over Europe but also more than a thousand prostitutes. The Swedish would have objected to the Council of Constance too, I suppose.

But did they ask the prostitutes to boycott the world cup? Not exactly the locus of high moral standards in those stands.
