Philippine police have detained three protesters out of several hundred who refused to disperse near the tightly guarded venues of the Asean summit.

The activists, protesting trade liberalisation advocated by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), burned an effigy of Gloria Arroyo, the Philippine president.
