Anxiety-ridden dogs that go berserk when left alone by their owners will soon have a new treatment option--a reformulated version of the antidepressant Prozac, known generically as fluoxetine. To be marketed under the name Reconcile by Indianapolis-based drugmaker Eli Lilly, the drug is chewable and flavored with a doggie-delectable zing. It is the latest in a string of recently approved canine drugs, reflecting the growing market for pet pharmaceuticals.

I don't want to get off on a rant here, but we can sedate our pooches but we can't get AIDS medication to Africa? What more proof of Western Collapse do you want?

Apotex – Access to Medicines

It was November of 2003 when then Prime Minister Jean Chretien announced his so-called "Pledge to Africa", his much publicized plan to enable drug makers in this country to produce generic pharmaceuticals for developing countries.

Well, the Prime Minister's "pledge" did become legislation, it's known as "Canada's Access to Medicines Regime." But despite being in effect since May of 2005… not a single generic pill has been delivered through this Canadian plan to a single HIV-AIDS sufferer in Africa.

Yes, it's sad -- but on the other hand, I know so many dogs that need it...

Will seeing-eye dogs get coverage from O.H.I.P.?  That's what I want to know...

ricknight, thanks for pointing us to this story. In answer to your query--when the "AIDS industry" makes as much for the West as the "pet industry" does, then drugs for AIDS will be falling in little crates from planes across Africa.

Also, I just wanted to point out that Baxter, the sleeping bulldog pictured, does not need Prozac at all. If anything, he needs a pick-me-up. When people leave, he just goes to sleep.
