Race for top U.S. trade job narrows with longtime Moon loyalist leading pack

As reported in Reuters.

Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Josette Shiner is a leading candidate for the Bush administration's top trade post, her former boss said in a farewell message to U.S. trade officials.

"I am pleased and confident that I am leaving USTR in very capable hands," Robert Zoellick said...

I recently wrote about Josette Shiner, an early and loyal member of Moon's True Love Revolution in the 1970s, the years when the True Father was proclaiming at Yankee Stadium in 1976 that Satan had invaded America, and making headlines with his calls for an "automatic theocracy to rule the world."

Shiner is a former editor of Moon's Times and -- if you are to believe a piece by Ann Louise Bardach from the Bush I years -- known among staff as the "number one Moonie" in the newsroom's uneasy alliance of Republicans and Moon faithful. And the one who presented Moon with the notion of starting a conservative newspaper.

Interesting career arc.
