RACIST BLOG WITHDRAWN FROM BBC MESSAGE BOARD FOLLOWING PROTEST FROM BOARD OF DEPUTIES
The posting, by a regular contributor 'Iron Naz', was made in a thread responding to Richard Littlejohn's Channel 4 programme highlighting the prevalence of antisemitism 'The War against Britain's Jews?' and stated
"Zionism is a racist ideology where jews are given supremacy over all other races and faiths.
This is found in the Talmud.
There is a law called Baba Mezia which allows jews to lie as long as its to non-jews. many pro jewish supporters will cringe at this being exposed because they know it exists, yet they keep quiet about it, hey frip, jla and co
The Law of Baba Mezia!! Tsk tsk tsk! Its in the Talmud."
After numerous complaints, including by the CST, the posting was briefly removed but then reappeared after the BBC's 'Communities Team' decided that it did not contravene House Rules.
Commenting, Jon Benjamin said "It is astonishing and a profound concern that a post of this nature is deemed to be acceptable and in no way in contravention of the rule that prohibits ‘unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive or otherwise objectionable material’. The allegation that Jewish teaching permitted Jews to deal dishonestly with non-Jews seems clearly to breach quite a number of these rules, as does the suggestion that Zionism is a racist ideology."
"This particular posting has been removed, but the episode reveals a worrying mindset that can even countenance that this kind of comment is deemed an appropriate contribution to a reasoned debate. The Community Security Trust were quick to pick this up and their measured intervention should have resolved the issue. It is particularly troubling that the trigger for this, a programme about the prevalence of antisemitism was carried, significantly, not by the BBC, but by another channel."
The Board of Deputies is the representative body of the British Jewish Community.

The original furore started with Mark Gardiner at the CST who blogged it on Harry's Place http://hurryupharry.bloghouse.net/. I picked it up almost simultaneously and was the 'other' complainer. My blog is at http://theymadeitup.squarespace.com/the-latest-news-and-discussion/ where you can see many original screenshots as well as other commentary about Antisemitic posts on BBC Messageboards.
Melanie Phillips wrote an article about it for The Jewish Chronicle http://www.melaniephillips.com/articles-new/?p=524 and Iron Naz e-mailed her.
Note that Iron Naz has been suspended from posting. I blogged that here http://theymadeitup.squarespace.com/the-latest-news-and-discussion/2007/7/19/bbc-antisemite-down.html
I recently also got another Antisemitic thread closed down. Its described here and was Hideen the last time I looked. http://theymadeitup.squarespace.com/the-latest-news-and-discussion/2007/7/20/bbc-messageboards-more-antisemitic-posts.html

It is good to see people being alert to this relatively covert way to attack Jews and Israel on BBC threads
Sadly in this particular thread on the BBC website there are other antisemitic references including one posting about how Jews control the media, very reminiscent of the infamous Protocals of Zion
Also the original objectional posting by Iron Naz still appears in some of the responses
I would have liked to have seen this whole thread removed from the site, but we have to settle for what is a minor result in getting the BBC moderator of the site to accept they were wrong when they first refused to remove the offensive posting saying it did not break any house rules. that was the original response compalinants who wrote in received!!
In effect that was the website moderator saying antisemitism is permissible!!!
It needs constant vigil to keep the pressure up on the BBC

" There is a law called Baba Mezia". Does this "law" exist?....

The Baba Metzia is part of the Talmudic works that were written and discussed by the Rabbis of the time. They are discussions and NOT laws. They are studied by some in the Jewish communities because they are seen as important works by great minds of the times. However, with out getting into great detail they do not reflect any modern relevence when it comes to behavior in the present day except how to live ones life according to the best of who we are.
Hope this helps a little. I am no scholar of the Talmud although I have studied some.
