My Wife Christina and I built an online webservice called GuruLib to help manage our home library. Using a book shelf metaphor, GuruLib catalogs books, movies, music, games and software in an online catalog. All relevant information about a title are fetched from either Amazon databases or from 530 public libraries around the world. GuruLib supports the following features.

1. Search from over 530 Public Libraries
   GuruLib can access over 530 public libraries around the world to collect cataloging information about hard to find books, movie, music, games and software. If your local library support Z39.50 protocol, GuruLib can search it.


2. 
   Retreives and displays information from UPC or ISBN
   Scan the UPC or ISBN using a barcode reader, webcam or manually type in, Gurulib will fetch all relevant cataloging information including the image of the front cover from several online resources.


3. 
   Add books or DVD from the barcode image captured using webcam or digital camera
   Using a webcam or digital camera capture an image of the barcode from the back of the book or the DVD cover and then upload it to GuruLib. GuruLib uses cutting edge image recognition algorithms to extract the ISBN or UPC code from the barcode image and then automatically retreive all essential information about the book or DVD from either Amazon databases or from public libraries around the world.


4. 
   Arrage your books,movies, music, games and software in virtual shelfs
   GuruLib uses a book shelf metaphor to catalog items. This is an excellent way to specify where your items are in your home library.


5. 
   Write your book or movie review and share with others
   GuruLib allows you to rate the books and write your reviews. Share your review with others and they can comment on your review.


6. 
   Keeps track of your loaned books
   Use Gurulib to keep track of the books that others borrowed from you. Informs you through email when the book has to be returned or is due.


7. 
   Smart Price Watch
   Set a target price for items in the wishlist, Gurulib will inform you through email when the price of the item falls beneath the target price. A graphical price history will help you know the current price trend.


8. 
   Blog Widgets
   You can generate widgets that you can post in your blogs. This is an excellent way to let your friends find out about the recent titles that you purchased.


9. 
   Catalog PDF, DOC, PPT, XLS and PS documents
   Catalog your research papers, datasheets, ebooks etc. in GuruLib. GuruLib automatically creates a front cover from the first page of your document.
