NP Rank:
Ranting away stress
Just like primal scream therapy, having a rant about all your work related problems is thought to be a positive release for your stress.
Rather than going home and boring friends and family with your work stories of frustration (when they probably have their own) the online community and demand for places to rant and vent is expanding.
Whether it be the micromanaging boss or the charmless co-worker, the rants are both explosive and expletive. However, it would seem that the more swearing involved in your rant the better - for your health that is.
Workrant.com was one of the first of its type onto the scene and certainly makes for encouraging reading if you think you've got problems. These type of sites are not however online communities in the traditional sense.
Because anonymity is key, no online profiles are created with a cute little picture taken on holiday. Any feedback from others is actively discouraged, so your frustrated rant is not judged, no matter how petty. This includes feedback from the sites themselves as they are not designed as advice-pages.
Quite frankly, with some of the day-to-day workplace crap that people have to put up with, just giving them a place to release a little steam is worth more than any Doctor-Phil styled pick-me-up.

If it wasn't for the occasional rant, I'd have exploded years ago. I used to be the poster boy for the stressed out office worker, and apparently in your article, I am again.
Any article with my picture in it -> Good stuff.
