'Realism' at work

I wasn't aware of the ambassador-to-Armenia problem, although I have a vague recollection of the name Evans--it is John, not Robert, as a matter of fact, who was U.S. ambassador to Yerevan--nor do I recall how I managed to find Ummah News Links

One factors out whatever diplomatic/administrative nonsense may be involved--no president lets envoys make state policy, after all--but, otherwise, this recall of Ambassador Evans and the appointment of Ambassador Richard Hoagland to succeed him seems to be nothing more than 'realism' at work: we all know that the Turkish ancien régime under the government of the so-called 'Young Turks' committed genocide against hundreds of thousands of Armenians, and at the same time Washington doesn't want to alienate Ankara.

Ankara, if it wants Turkey to play with the Euros, is going to have to make some admission, sooner or later, that Turks killed a million and more Armenians in the years 1915 to 1917.  It is short-sighted and shameful that Washington doesn't do its part to hasten this.
