The state-managed power company of Santa Fe Province, Argentina (Empresa Provincial de la Energía, EPE) informed that 18 April 2007 marked a new record high consumption of electric power in the territory it serves. At 7:55 PM the system demanded 1,565 megawatts. The company noted that such levels of power demand are unusual for this time of the year and reminded the public of the need of saving power.

April is the beginning of autumn in Argentina, and in the central regions of the country it is commonly cool and rainy. Mid-April, however, has so far had an anomalous weather, with high temperatures over 30° C (86° F) for several days in a row, comparable to summer.
