Overview
After battering Jamaica
Sunday night, Hurricane Dean is continuing on a westward to
west-northwestward track and is projected to make landfall on the
Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico early Tuesday morning. Maximum sustained
winds are already near 150 miles per hour, and the National Hurricane
Center says Dean is “likely” to become a Category Five hurricane (winds
greater than 155 mph) before making landfall.
International Red Cross Response
On Saturday, Aug. 18, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies released 150,000 Swiss francs from its Disaster
Relief Emergency Fund to respond to first needs in Haiti, the Dominican
Republic, and other affected nations. More action will be taken this
week..
