Remnants of Hurricane John dump heavy rain on Baja, could drench parts of U.S.

LA PAZ, Mexico The remnants of Hurricane John soaked Baja California fishing villages and retirement communities and could bring flooding to parts of the U.S. Southwest before dying out.

By late Sunday, the once-powerful hurricane had weakened to "a heavy rainfall event" that could dissipate over the next day, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

But the storm's remnants could still dump 2.5 to 7 centimeters (1 to 3 inches) of rain in desert areas from southern California to west Texas in the next few days, causing some flooding, forecasters said.
