Dr. Ariel Shamir and Shai Avidan from
Efi Arazi School of Computer Science developed a software that allows content aware image resizing. That means that they can "scale" pictures in real-time while keeping the dimensions of important parts of the image. Their technique detects less important parts of the image and jars them (or removes part of them) but doesn't touch the rest. With this technique, it's even possible to extend images beyond their original dimensions while keeping aspect ratios.
