RI to come up with seven-point agenda to UNFCCC
The seven-point agenda dealt with adaptation, mitigation, clean development mechanism (CDM), financial mechanism, technology and capacity building, reduced deforestation and post-Kyoto protocol, Daniel Murdiyarso, editor of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) WG2 report, said on Monday.
The time had come for policy makers to pay attention to the problems of adaptation to climate change that had happened to their respective citizens, he said.
"After passing through the adaptation process, we must conduct a mitigation process which serves as a response to or control of the problem of climate change," he said.
He likened the adaptation and mitigation processes to a motorist who was about to drive his vehicle.
"Using a safety belt is the process of adaptation to the road, and controlling the vehicle through its clutch or gas pedals and the brakes is the mitigation process," he said.
