"Indonesia certainly expects it will bring Myanmar to democracy in accordance with their self-determined roadmap," Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo said here Friday.

In their meeting last July in Manila, ASEAN foreign ministers issued a joint communique stating that there had been a positive reference of Myanmar, including developments in the process of national reconciliation and peaceful transition to democracy as envisaged in the roadmap to democracy, he said.

However, the regional grouping also expressed concern about the slow pace of the reconciliation process and urged Myanmar to show tangible progress that would lead it to a peaceful transition to democracy in the near future, he said.

"We also reiterate our concern about the detention of National League for Democracy (NLD) leader Aung San Syu Kyi and urge the Myanmarese government to release her soon," he said.
