sungnyemun, more popularly known as namdaemun or the south gate of seoul, was burned down to ashes by suspected arson. yes, the #1 national treasure of korea, which had stood tall and proud for the past 600 years, went down in mere five hours.
i'm so upset that something so precious can be lost so easily. i'm also outraged that negligence and bureaucratic red tape caused and aggravated the situation. it was so preventable, and fire should have been put out, but there was no protocol whatsoever to follow, and the authorities were nearly as confused as anyone else watching.
i don't think i can sleep tonight..

this photo was taken july 2007, and is the one and only photo that i have of sungnyemoon. i regret that i ever took it for granted and didn't bother to document more of it..
