The name Yves Saint Laurent has got to be the most evocative in the
modern fashion lexicon. Heavens, the company even took the name Paris
for one of its most successful perfumes. To me, it insinuates almost
unattainable chic: couture made for the likes of Catherine Deneuve.
Mere mortals couldn't really wear YSL's Mondrian dresses or Ballet
Russe flouncy skirts; only rock royalty like Bianca Jagger deserved to
wear a Le Smoking.
