Reports say that this years Head of the Charles was nothing but clear skies, as the 42nd annual regatta took place along the banks of the Charles River in Cambridge, MA, changing leaves and large crowds abound. The Head of the Charles is all about rowing, but it is also about having fun.  Nada Surf & Arrested Development headlined Row-A-Palooza, and rowdy crowds cheered on their teams from bridges, docks, or wherever offered a good view.

There were 1,621 registered boats operated by 8,200 rowers, and they represented only 49 percent of the individuals, clubs and colleges that filed applications. Women and masters are the fastest growing groups in the regatta, but Schoch doesn’t necessarily want to shortchange the existing events in order to accommodate the changing demographics of the sport.
