Nicolas Sarkozy, presidential candidate has projected an humble image in his first public speech after the publication of preliminary projections:

Sarkozy said that he wished for a respectful dialogue between him and Mme Royal for the 15 days before the second round of voting.

The main ideas proposed by Sarkozy were those of protection (domsestic securtity) and the protection of the economic living condition of the French. Sarkozy underlined his wish to talk to all French voters and made explicit mention of the marginalized groups. "Variety should be seen and lived as a richness, not seen as a threat". Sarkozy declared that it was time for a "French Dream" and that now that he owed everything to France (he was born to a Family by Hungarian origines) he felt it was time to "give France something back".

His speech clearly was intended to have an emotional undertone and was not overly issues based, including many common place suppositions.
