Saudi king to present award to ex-mining minister Soebroto

Riyadh (ANTARA News) - Saudi Arabian King Abdullah will bestow an award
on Soebroto, a former Indonesian mining minister and OPEC secretary
general, for changing the image of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum
Exporting Countries).



"I am considered to have been successful in changing the West`s
negative view of OPEC," Soebroto, who served as OPEC secretary general
from 1988 to 1994, told ANTARA on a flight to Riyadh, Tuesday.



Under Soebroto`s leadership, OPEC managed to stabilize world oil prices
and accommodate the oil consuming countries` interests.



The award will be presented during the Third Summit of OPEC to be held
in Riyadh on November 17 and 18, 2007. Indonesian Vice President Yusuf
Kalla is expected to attend the event which will be participated in by
12 OPEC member countries. (*) END
