Saudi Arabia has said that it will consider diplomatic relations with the Shia-led government in Iraq and will soon open an embassy in Baghdad.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told the visiting US secretaries of State and Defense on Wednesday that his country will soon send a diplomatic mission to Baghdad and will explore how to open an embassy in Iraq.

"We expressed our hope that we will work closely with Iraq regarding security aspects, especially terrorism,'' the foreign minister said on Wednesday in a news conference.

Saudi Arabia has had frosty relations with the Iraqi government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Some pundits believe that some Saudi Arabian factions and princes support militant groups and arm al-Qaeda linked networks in Iraq.
