One wonders what the world is coming to, when repeat offenders, schoolgirls get a slap on the wrist because of their age.

Two wore their hair in pigtails: they looked young, more like children than teenagers. The third girl, she was bigger and wore shoes that appeared a size too large.

It’s these three teens who were escorted by sheriff’s deputies into Halifax youth court Tuesday -- accused of beating an woman in her 60s with a table leg as she walked across the Halifax Common on Monday evening.

Two of the girls were held in custody pending a bail hearing Wednesday. Both had been charged in July in relation to a similar swarming in central Halifax. The girls had been released from custody pending trial and placed on a number of conditions, including a court imposed curfew.

It appears that subsequent to their release on July 16, they were arrested again. Both were eventually released -- one girl less than a week ago. They were placed on a number of conditions, including a curfew.
