Scottish lass kicks off tour with a BANG!
European up-and-comers loop in a sold out crowd
April 06, 2006
[Ferndale, MI]
A house packed with eager fans awaited KT Tunstall's show as the doors opened early to let in the crowd. Outside the doors of The Magic Bag, a line was wrapping around the block two hours before the scheduled showtime.
David Ford, a British acoustic musician, opened up the night and shocked the crowd with an intense stage performance. Ford performed solo and backed himself up with loops to record his vocals, keyboard, guitar, tambourine and maracas throughout the set. At the conclusion of Ford's passionate "State of the Union," the phrase "do you have any CDs?!" echoed through the crowd. Ford will continue to tour this spring and introduce US crowds to his unique performance.
KT Tunstall, an up-and-coming Scottish sensation was all smiles throughout her performance. Tunstall greeted the crowd by introducing it to her looper and its first trip to Michigan. Her looping machine nicknamed "weebastard" has an audio loop that runs from the deck, to the mic, to the guitar, to the pedal switch (with a few other stops in between) giving her the ability to sound like a full band with backup singers, while playing solo.
Tunstall's set list was composed of tracks from her recently released album "Eye To The Telescope" as well as songs yet unreleased. After hearing only two chords of her hit single "Black Horse and The Cherry Tree," the crowd erupted in applause. It is only the start of Tunstall's US tour, but gauging by the amount of energy she pulled out of the Bag Thursday night and how passionate her fans are about her music - look out USA, this girl is taking over the charts.
