November 6, 2006 Villagers were put on the alert after a major blaze at a scrapyard on their doorstep. It was feared they might have to be evacuated from their homes as a result of the fire at Blaydon Burn Auto Dismantlers in Long Ridge Road, Blaydon Burn, early on Saturday. Crews from Swalwell, Gateshead and Newcastle's West Denton stations fought the blaze, which was discovered at 1.20am.
