What seems to be right out of an SNL comedy skit, bIt player Rosato of both SCTV "Horror Theatre" and SNL's "Jim Belushi Replacement" has been serving 2 years in a maximum security jail for severe mental illness claiming his wife and children are impostors.

Defence lawyer Daniel Brodsky says the presiding judge took the unusual step of ordering the independent psychiatrist to be present, because both Rosato and his estranged wife Leah have psychiatric histories.

Anthony Rosato, 52, was a comic star on SCTV, Second City and Saturday Night Live.

He says he believes his estranged wife and young child have been replaced by impostors, but maintains he’s sane and has insisted on a trial.

Rosato has been behind bars without trial for more than two years in the maximum security Quinte Detention Centre near Kingston on a charge of criminally harassing his wife.

It’s alleged his “reckless” behaviour caused her to fear for her safety or that of others. The trial, which is being heard by a judge, is expected to last a month.
