Security and Prosperity Partnership Protests Blanket Canada

The leaders of NAFTA, Harper, Bush, and Calderon, gather in Montebello, Quebec today to discuss the Security and Propsperity Partnership. Coordinated protests are also taking place in major cities across Canada.

Angry anarchists and family-friendly activists converged on the posh Montebello resort in Quebec on Monday to protest the North American Leaders' Summit.

A few hundred protesters, some wearing anarchist red-and-black flags, left from Concordia University in downtown Montreal aboard a convoy of yellow school buses.

They carried signs condemning U.S. President George W. Bush as a war criminal and calling for an end to environmental destruction.

The topic of protest ranges from general anti-American domination to specific complaints regarding the organization of the SPP and the control of the partnership by big business.

A perceived lack of transparency in the negotiations, however, has provoked the ire of anti-globalization activists, environmentalists, peaceniks, and civil rights groups -- all suspicious of the outcome.

Sunday, hundreds of demonstrators marched from Canada's parliament to the US and Mexican embassies in Ottawa, railing against the SPP.
