WASHINGTON - Sen. Larry Craig denied soliciting an undercover police officer shortly after being arrested in a bathroom at a Minneapolis airport, an audio recording of the arrest revealed.
You are sitting here lying to a police officer," Karsnia responded. "People vote for you. Unbelievable."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., also urged Craig to step down, as did a handful of Republican House members, including Jeff Miller and Ginny Brown-Waite of Florida, Mark Souder of Indiana, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Ron Lewis of Kentucky.
"It is unacceptable for a member of Congress to be soliciting sex in public restrooms, "Kit Bond (GOP Missouri) said.
* So the story continues to unfold. But as with the blatant hypocrisy of Senator Craig concerning Bob Packwood one must wonder how many of those demanding his resignation are themselves involved in conduct "unbecoming" to a public figure. It seems conservative Republicans who uphold traditional "family values" in private are not so traditional. It seems these revelations of "sexual orientation" have become a perpetual occurrence in Washington. My question is: What is the short-term and long term effect on conservative politics?. If it in any way mirrors Christian Fundamentalist religions response to Jim Bakker, Ted Haggard, and others it will give birth to a healthy skepticism when any politician claims, "Family Values" agendas.
