UPDATE: Nearly two days after the spill, many Burnaby residents whose homes and properties were within reach of the oil spray are being told that it is unknown when they can return to their homes, or--in some cases--if they can return at all. In addition, the US company in charge of the pipeline, Kinder Morgan, doesn't exactly have a reputation for safety or safe practices:

"B. Cusano Contracting declined comment when contacted by the Straight.
Shortly before Kinder Morgan took over Terasen in 2005, the Straight
reported that the U.S. energy giant had racked up large fines in the
U.S. for safety violations, including a gas explosion that killed five
and injured four others in San Francisco's Bay Area in 2004."

In addition, the construction company (B. Cusano, mentioned above) was supposed to follow formal guidelines for construction around pipelines, including providing a wide berth around oil lines. So far, it's not clear why these guidelines were not followed. The guidelines would have been monitered by Kinder Morgan.

Shawn Soucy for Spirit Media has provided NowPublic with this amazing video of the oil spill.  Click on the big black video screen to the right.

A construction crew apparently ruptured at 24-inch oil pipeline while digging on a city street.

Burnaby is a community near Vancouver, British Columbia. There is a nearby oil refinery on Burrard Inlet.

"A pipeline running under a highway in Burnaby, B.C. ruptured after a reported roadwork accident, spilling huge amounts of oil.

The oil gushed for a reported 25 minutes before crews were able to staunch the flow.

Officials cancelled an initial evacuation order now that the leak has been contained. However, and there are fears that a major environmental problem may be developing."

I am donating all proceeds to me to this non-profit organization in BURNABY where the animals will be cared for.  The beach we and many others take our dogs is now contaminated.  And so are all the animals who frequent the area.  There's a pack of coyotes that live in the very gully the oil ran down into Burrard Inlet.  I know this because you can hear them at night and we have plenty of them around here.  Lots of missing cat posters in the neighborhood.

 Here's the story...

I was working in my studio on Ridge Drive when I smelled what I thought was a diesel spill as the dump trucks for the project were parked in front of our house during the work.  I went out front to see if I could see anything but found nothing out of the ordinary, besides noisy smelly trucks in the 'hood.  As I returned to the back to return to my studio in the lower part of the house, I saw something I never ever thought I'd see in my lifetime.  An urban scene from the Bevery Hillbillies.  Above the rooftops of my neighbors houses I saw what I say was a 50' - 70' geyser of oil shooting up in the air.  I had a petty good idea what had happenned as I walk past the Terminal that loads the ships almost every day w/ my dogs.  There's an underground pipeline notice right in front of our home.

I ran in and grabbed the first video camera I could and ran to the site.  Started shooting immediately and eventuall spoke to the workers as they were wiping oil off themselves.  That's when the controversy started.  They informed me the plans they received from Kinder Morgen, (Morning Child in German...), said that the pipeline was 3 meters from the centerline of the road.  They were at .5 meters of the centerline.  With Kinder Morgans dispicable safety record, that the plans were wrong isn't surprising.

I was at the beach yesterday evenong and there's a thin layer of oil on the surface of the water everywhere.  Way worse than we're led to believe.  BARNET MARINE PARK is completely contaminated!!!

I'll upload pics I took to show you.

Godspeed
