NP Rank:
Shocked Sanjay Dutt gets six years' in jail
High time one would say, it's been taking ages for the court to pass
it's judgement, and even though delayed, it's sweet justice for the
victims, who had their lives changed for the worse on that fateful day,
atleast now, one can truly say, they have had their justice.
Mumbai, July 31: Sanjay Dutt was ordered to be taken into custody immediately Tuesday, after Judge Kode cancelled the actor's bail, and sentenced him to six years' rigorous imprisonment, while also asking him to pay a fine of Rs.25,000 in the '93 Mumbai blasts case.
udge Kode also sentenced Karsi Adjania to two years, and Yusuf Nullwalla to five years in jail - one year less than Dutt's term.
The TADA court cleared Sanjay of terrorism charges, but pronounced him guilty of committing a crime, and forcing others to indulge in criminal activities.
I believe the court has been lenient to him as he is very popular with the masses, due to him being an extremely popular and well known actor in Indian cinema (or Bollywood as it's often called)
Earlier, Rusi Mulla, who was convicted for aiding actor Sanjay Dutt to destroy an AK-56 rifle, was granted benefit under the Probation of Offenders Act.
Judge Kode ruled that Dutt was mature at the time that he committed these acts, and even attended parties hosted by well-known accused people, who were absconding at the time, and were wanted in several cases.
Dutt had said that he was introduced to the underworld by director Feroz Khan.
The entire film fraternity has expressed their solidarity with Mr Dutt, and according to sources, there is approximately one hundred and fifty crores!! riding on him, and if he goes to jail as he scheduled to for serving 6 years of rigorous imprisonment (he has already served 16 months), there will be a lot of money that shall be going the drain, and one presumes, there shall be more law suits filed.
Mulla was ordered to be released on payment of bond of Rs.1 lakh and a surety of the same amount. Mulla was given the benefit because of his age, and restricted role. He will be under observation for one year, and will have to submit a surety of Rs.1 lakh.
Reports added that there was a smile on Sanjay Dutt's face at the time, as the verdict for Mulla was announced. However, he was said to be shocked at his own verdict.
All I can personally add is though this was justice delayed, and despite the intense pressure built up by the media and by the countless people "behind the scenes" who must have used all possible channels, ranging from diplomatic to political, finally, the souls of those who lost their lives on that fateful day can rest in peace, and finally, the relatives of those who passed away can be relieved of this exhausting ordeal, and can try to patch their lives back together.. 14 years of sheer agony.... 14 years of wait.. 14 years worth of justice??
BREAKING - He has appealed in the Supreme court, The highest legal body in the country, for a change in the decision of the TADA court (special court for terrorist activities) and possibly apply for a bail so he can get his affairs in order, and also try to reduce his term, as well as try and include a probation period. His probation request was denied as he was spotted in a party at Dubai organised by Mr. Nadiawalla, where he was spotted in the company of Underworld kingpins such as Dawood Ibrahim and his entourage.
