The Crown Prosecution Service in the UK has said there was "insufficient evidence" to prosecute any individual over the death of Jean Charles de Nenezes, on 22 July. But the powers that be have decided that the Metropolitan force will be charged under the UK's health and safety laws.

Mr Menezes was shot seven times in the head and seemingly this means that the Metropolitan Police Commision failed to provide "for the health, safety and welfare" of Mr Menezes.

Is it just me, or is, to quote the appropriately named Mr Bumble in Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, the law an ass?
