Numerous incidents around New Hampshire couple's property had frantic observers worried siege was underway

- Latest Blog Entry - A New Hampshire couple convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to jail said that they won't surrender to authorities. Ed and Elaine Brown were convicted of federal tax evasion in January. They did not appear in court for their sentencing, where they were ordered to serve five and a half years in prison. They have remained in their heavily fortified home in Plainfield, N.H., since April.

July 30, 2007 - NEWS - 30 to 40 shots were fired outside Ed and Elaine Brown's house last night in what was a probable attempt at provocation to goad the Browns and their supporters into a violent response.

Alex Jones spoke to Elaine Brown at around 11:30pm last night and confirmed that what sounded like automatic weapon fire was heard coming from a wooded area behind the house.

Another supporter of the Browns who was staying on the property in a trailer was also startled when his mobile home was violently pounded on in the middle of the night, but the perpetrator escaped.

According to the Brown's blog, others reported seeing Blackwater vehicles parked around the property on satellite surveillance images of the area.

Danny Riley, a friend of the Browns who is also staying in the house, earlier reported that a vehicle driven by the Plainfield Chief of Police had made its way onto the property and was blocking his exit but fishtailed and suddenly accelerated away from the scene violently.

The Palinfield Police offcie told Riley that they were putting down tracks to check how many vehicles were entering the property.

Frantic calls were made to the New Hampshire authorities throughout the night by concerned radio listeners, but early this morning the police denied any involvement in the incidents.

The events coincided with coordinated hack attacks of the Infowars, Prison Planet and We Are Change websites, which went down just 20 minutes before the gunshots were heard.

Early indications suggest that this was an attempt to provoke the Browns and their supporters into a violent response.

Similar tactics were employed when the Browns held a Live Free Or Die jamboree two weeks ago when a Homeland Security helicopter flew low over the attendees and circled the property.

cb3tech, thanks for this report. But who are the Browns? Can you give us some more background...Good Stuff.

If the spot light is kept shining brightly on these poor folks, perhaps it would prevent another David Koresh type incident. They are protesting the legality of the Federal income tax. A U.S.District Court in Louisiana has just ruled in favor of another individual, Cryer?(12-0), and has basically told the IRS that if they cannot show the Law or the Statute to support their taxing authority, then they have none. This might spell the end of the internal revenue service, because the federal government has never had the right (under the original Constitution) to tax an individuals income. The problem is that the original Constitution was made null and void in 1861 when the southern states tried to secede from the union and left Congress without a quorum to conduct the peoples business. That is why the president is so quick to make laws by executive order, because he can, there is no Constitution to constrain him. Look for BUSH/CHENEY to come up with another executive order to foist yet more tyranny on the people. Ed and Elaine Brown are Heros, May God watch their back!! If my History is incorrect please tell me how, peaceout, dryin

Thanks for the background. I am familiar with the legality of taxing...it's one of the great ironies of American society.

These poor folks??? Here is a little background on them:

In 1960, Brown was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon and
armed robbery in connection with an attack on a man in Somerville,
Massachusetts. Brown was imprisoned at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute in Concord, Massachusetts, but was pardoned by then-governor Michael Dukakis
in July of 1976, with the recommendation of the Massachusetts Advisory
Board of Parole, after Brown's having been paroled in January of 1965.

According to an October 1994 article in the New Hampshire Sunday News
Brown was the spokesman for an organization called the Constitution
Defense Militia, and had become involved in the militia movement in
late 1993. The newspaper reported that Brown designated various
individuals and organizations as being part of a conspiracy to deprive Americans of life and liberty. Among the people and organizations named by Brown were then-present U.S. President Bill Clinton, former President George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, The Council on Foreign Relations, the United Nations, the Tri-Lateral Commission, the American Bar Association, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Brown reportedly had stockpiled 18 months' worth of food, with
weapons and ammunition, and believed that there would be a Federal
government takeover of “private property, utilities, health facilities
and the media.” The 1994 article reported that Brown believed the
militia was setting up its own "courts . . . for the purpose of taking
back America." The newspaper reported that Brown said he saw no way the conflict would end except in violence. The paper stated: “Brown, who says he is an agnostic, admits it's easy to dismiss him as a nut.”

Do a web search, it just gets worse. There is plenty of background on them.

Thank you for your input TheArgus,

I am glad to hear you using your right of free speech. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I'm sure there is all sorts of propaganda that has been injected into main stream media to try and downplay the real patriotism of this individual. Every true American should be against any form of government that slowly disembowels the constitution of the united states on a regular and premeditated basis, let alone harasses and regularly causes direct damage to your LEGAL way of life. If I was going to take part in that kind of civil disobedience than I too would be stock piling supplies to survive and defend against any tyrannical group, regardless if they were holding a CIA badge or a damn communist flag. I admire anyone who has the balls to stand up against the corporate slave state.

Religion has nothing to do with this.

"No taxation without representation" was a slogan in the period 1763-1775 that summarized a primary grievance of the American colonists in the Thirteen colonies.
The colonists complained that taxes were imposed by Parliament without
the consent of the colonists, which violated the traditional rights of
Englishmen dating back from the Magna Carta.
The point was that the colonies had no representation in Parliament;
the British responded that they were "virtually" represented. The
Americans said these "virtual representatives" knew nothing about
America. The Americans rejected the Stamp Act 1765 (which was repealed), and in 1773 violently rejected the tax on imports at the Boston Tea Party.
When Great Britain began to crack down on the illegal activities
performed by the colonists, the colonists formed militias and seized
control of each colony, ousting the royal governors. The complaint was
never over the amount of taxation (which was small), but always on the
decision-making process by which taxes were decided in London, without
representation for the colonists in British Parliament.

cb3tech, Thanks for your first hand account. I'd apperciate it if you could provide more detail and context for those who may not be following the Browns and the story behind all this. Good stuff.

cb3tech, this is original and a good story!

A bit more information would help be great though..

I must disagree with this one being flagged as "good stuff." I urge caution in providing an outlet for militia extremists and religious fanatics.

Argus,

This article is very much "good stuff", particularly since the American establishment media has been trying to bury the story.

Ed an Elaine Brown are neither extremists nor fanatics.

They are devout Christians, yes.  Im no Christian at all, but I see no justification for slandering them as "fanatics".  That sort of empty rhetoric is what's given American journalism a bad name already.  Besides, Ed and Elaine are understandably under a lot of pressure right now - be realistic, if you were under seige in your own home, with trained killers lurking in the woods outside, and the threat of 5 years in the govt torture dungeons (cuz if you think America's federal prisons arent torture, you havent been in one.  They are BLOODY HELL HOLES.) as your alternative, you'd be thinking too much about the hereafter too.

Nor are they "militia extremists".  There is nothing extreme about courage.  He is standing up for himself, and his US Constitutional right to liberty.  The IRS has been challenged publically by 3 of their own agents now, as well as countless lawyers, for over a decade.  The federal income tax in the USA is as big parasitic scam as bad as black slavery was, but just like back then people have a hard time accepting that the boards under their own feet are rotten.

A large number of people support Ed and Elaine.  There was even a Freedom Concert held on their behalf, in their own front yard, just a week ago.  Unfortunately many people are terrified of speaking up, because this issue is a direct challenge to the lifeblood of what has become a parasitic regime and people know what sort of criminal abuse Washington DC is capable of today.  This is not the same America of 200 years ago.  Far, far from it.

Ed and Elaine are a kindly, friendly, polite, well-off old couple who have always been an active and welcome part of their community.  But they're something else, too.  Something we havent seen in America for a long time.  They're tough-as-nails fighters, and they've had enough.

It's nice to see an elderly couple we can LOOK UP TO, for a change.  I support them 110%, and wish them the very best of luck.

CB3Tech, good work! (But yes, more context next time please.)

speaking truth to power

The story provides little background. The comments cry that this is buried by the "popular press" and that's simply not true. In the media lately there has been more than enough information to understand that these people have had their day in court and they lost. This isn't a "Bush-Cheney" thing, tax protestors have been around since the beginning. These people are simply scam artists (she's a lawyer) who tried to keep it all and the system won't let them.

I'm no happier than they are about my onerous tax burden. I don't want my taxes enriching the lives of crooked politicians pulling their pork barrel tricks. However, I also understand that if we all suddenly holed up in our homes, refusing to pay taxes, refusing to participate in the processes of the country and refusing to respond to the letter of the law, we wouldn't have a country. Not all but most of your tax money pays for the bridges, roads, schools and even the infrastructure that allows you to blather about on the Internet. If no one paid taxes, all these little luxuries would slip away PDQ.

The first to go would be that police force that keeps other citizens from going in and doing harm to these people.  Their tax-paying, law abiding neighbors aren't big fans of theirs.

These folks are just another variety of granola...fruits and nuts and flakes...all secure in their little palace hoping to become American martyrs for a worthless cause. This will likely end in tragedy and the majority of American citizens will go on raising families, vacationing at Disney, heading to the ocean, holding backyard BBQ's  and enjoying life. Too bad for them, good for the rest of us.

A couple is refusing to pay their income taxes, what other back round would you like to see?

They had their day in court? No sir, they were denied their defense arguments from the beginning.

They are refusing to pay their federal INCOME taxes, that's all. Your comment about not having a country, or public services is ridiculous. Most of the money paid in income taxes goes to pay down the national dept. Which is nothing more than the bill that the federal reserve (a privately owned entity) charges the government to print the WORTHLESS paper we call currency.

I'm sure the police would do anything you told them to do if you had enough money.

Where did you get your information sir?  Who would do harm to these people? What harm are they causing to you or anyone else?

You are a perfect example of what is wrong with today's society, you would rather just ignore the issues while giving up your rights, just as long as you get to go on your corporate brain wash vacations (maybe) once a year and slave for a piece of the post WWII life style.

The Browns are very successful and happy working Americans. Don't get it confused.

Get real, you must have more aspirations than that?

What background would we like to see? We would like to see their ACTUAL background. I've posted just a fraction of it here, but it is your job to lend credibility by showing as much of it as you can to support your story. If these people are the persecuted heroes that you make them out to be, then their background should support this.

Each time you have been asked to show some background on the Browns, you reply by blowing smoke around the issue with extremist diatribe and constitutional rhetoric. Show us your transparency and unbiased approach to this story.

I can see no reasonable basis for this characterization: "a probable attempt at provocation to goad the Browns and their supporters into a violent response."

0
jimbobb2

Agreed. It's more an attempt to enforce the law of the land. They lost their legal battle and now say the law doesn't apply to them. I do hope it ends without violence but at some point, our enforcement policies will go into action and another wrong-minded radical group will be overrun.

If there were a law that stated that the federal government has a right to tax your income, Ed and Elaine Brown could be considered to be criminals and deserve to be in jail, but since it has already been proven that the federal government cannot show a law or statute to support their taxing authority, the Browns would have to be considered heros for standing up against the tyranny of the federal government,....as to conspiracy theories if you want to witness something absolutely frightening please go to youtube and watch a video on 911(the attack on the world trade center), by a group called Loose Change. I challenge you to then do the research to try to dispel some of their claims. Then comes the frightening part,.. sit down and think about what bush/cheney are doing with the terrorism laws and how they are slowly taking away all of your civil liberties, all for the cause of fighting terrorism....,I don't like conspiracy theories either, what is daunting is when they cease to be theories....

Gods, the amount of disinformation some of you are spouting, is incredible.

The US income tax is NOT the law of the land - it's a popular myth, no better than our belief once that the world was flat and dragons lurk beyond the horizon.  A myth which our bloated and corrupt govt now relies upon, for its cash flow.  Washington DC has slowly transformed over the last 100 years into just another organized crime gang running a protection money racket.  It's the oldest scam in the book - "Give us a chunk of your money, or we'll hurt you."

Ed and Elaine fought their legal battle because they wanted to give the system a fair chance to do the right thing.  The system, predictably, failed.  Their whole argument is that the income tax law does not apply to ANYONE, not me, not you, not anyone who is an individual American citizen.  It never did!  But time and again, people refuse to listen because of the fear of it being true.

Elaine is NOT a lawyer - she's a dentist, and a citizen who has done her legal homework as any citizen should.  The US govt has now destroyed what was once a productive dental practice, stealing her equipment and putting her employees out of work.  Still, Elaine continues to offer her services to anyone who will come to her home (since they dont dare leave their home now.)

Personal income tax does NOT pay for roads - gasoline and local property tax do.

Personal income tax does NOT pay for schools - local property tax does.

Personal income tax does NOT pay for the Internet - private industry (ISPs, telecom corps) and personal income (my DSL bill, your DSL bill) do.

Ed and Elaine's neighbors are blaming Ed and Elaine for what the US govt is choosing to do, because they feel they cant get the govt to change its ways so they pass the buck to the Browns.  It's a failing of human nature, and a result of the divide-and-conquer strategy the US govt continually uses against the American people to keep us blaming each other for what our out-of-control govt is doing to us.

The US govt CONSTANTLY creates problems, then encourage us to blame each other for the results, to justify their then creating new problems with their "solutions", and the cycle continues.

The only difference between Ed and Elaine Brown, and most of us, is that this old couple is DOING what most of us dont have the courage to do.  They're standing up for their rights, against the odds, against the courts, against the world if they have to.  It's called principle.

They've stated time and again that they're perfectly willing to pay any LEGAL tax, and perfectly willing to pay their fair share of society's expenses, but the Federal Income Tax - if you look at the research she has presented time and time again - only applies to corporation and resident aliens. i.e. people and things getting the benefits of America without being American citizens.

America did just fine without a personal income until 1913 - America could do just fine without one today.  Our bloated military, our bloated military-related industry, and our bloated socialist welfare police state, would suffer of course.  And suffer they should - they're too expensive!

If everyone stopped paying personal income tax today, Washington would still take in as much $$ on corporate taxes, licenses, fines, fees, permits, and auctions to equal roughly the ENTIRE federal budget of the year 2000.  Do you really think they didnt have enough money back then?

p.s. Vote for Congressman Ron Paul in 2008! The only man brave enough to promise to abolish the IRS in his first week.
